MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

ATT A Common Council held at the City Hall of the Said City on fryday the first day of feb Anno Dom 1711[-12]

ORDER'D Nemine Contra dicente that the Mayor Issue his N° 38 Warrant to the Treasurer to pay to Mr Johannes Jansen or Order the sum of five pounds two Shilings and three pence Current Money of New York out of the Six hundred pound Tax being for the like sum by him disburst for the Repairs of the great and little Bridges in the Months of June July August and Sepbr last as Appears by his Acct which is Audited and Allowed.

WHEREAS Mr Robert Lurting late Treasurer of this City in the Month of October last was served with an Order of this Court to deliver to the present Treasurer all such sum and sums of Money Books

Papers Bonds writings and Accts whatsoever which are in his hands belonging to this Corporation whose Receipt to him Should be A sufficient Warrant and discharge for so doing. and Whereas the said Robert Lurting hath hitherto Neglected to Comply with the said Order. it is therefore hereby further ORDER'D that unless the said Robert Lurting do perform the said Order within the Space of fourteen days Now Next Ensueing that his Bond for the due performance of his Office of Chamberlain or Treasurer be put in suit & that he be forthwith served with A Copy of this Order.

[229] ORDER'D that Mr Recorder Alderman Smith Alderman Blagge Mr Depeyster and Mr Reade or any three of them be A Committee to discover what Incroachments are made on the Lands belonging to this Corporation and to Consider what are the best Methods to Obtain the same and to put up such Advertisements as they Shall think proper Relating thereunto and make Report of their Procedings herein with all Convenient Expedition.

Blagge laying Claim to the Said Land. it is therefore ORDERD that the Consideration of the Said Petitioner be Refer'd till the Committee for Inspecting the Incroachments on the City Lands be made.

ORDER'D that the Mayor Issue his Warrant to the Treasurer to [pay to] Thomas Evans Bricklayer or Order the sum of one pound Eighteen shilings and Nine pence Currt Money of New York being for Materialls and work by him done at the ferry house in November last as Appears by his Acct which is Audited and Allowed.

[231] ORDER'D that the Mayor Issue his Warrant to the Treasurer to pay to Teunis Tiebout Carpenter or Order the sum of Sixteen Shilings and six pence Warrant Issued Currt Money of New York it being for Materialls and work by him done at the ferry house in November last as Appears by his Acc! which is Audited and Allowed.

Cap! Symes one of the Lessees of the Dock Appeared before this Court and proposed to Surrender the Lease thereof on Certain Conditions assoon as he Could have an Answer from Mr Denne the Other Lessee and prayed that in the mean time the Issue ag! them at the Suit of this Corporation in an Action of Covenant to be tryed this Next Term be put of till June Term following in Order to an Accomodation. it is therefore hereby ORDER'D that the said Tryal be put of till June Term and no longer on any pretence whatsoever the Lessees paying the Cost of this Term Ensueing and ORDER'D that Alderman Thong Alderman Bayard Mr Depeyster and Mr Reade or any three of them be A Committee to Receive the proposals of the Said Lessees and to Report their Opinion on the same with all Convenient Expedition and also to Inspect in what Condition the Dock and Wharfs are in and on what Terms the same may be again demised most beneficial to the publick

ORDER'D that Alderman Thong Imploy Labourers for Clearing and Levelling the Street by the weigh house of the soyl and Dirt that lyes therein for the better Conveniency of Shiping off and landing Goods and Merchandize.

MEMORANDUM March ye: 28th 1712 the Mayor Issued his No Warrant to the Treasurer to pay to Ariantie Douw Widdow or Order the sum of two pounds fifteen shilings Current Money of New York in full of A Quarter of a years sallary as scavenger
