PASSENGER MATTERS

LITTLE ROCK, ARK., August 9, 1905. Order to File Passenger Tariffs:

It appearing that the files of the Commission of the passenger tariffs of the various railroads were incomplete, on motion of Commissioner Hudgins, the following order was made:

It is hereby ordered that all railroads in this state furnish the Commission within 15 days two copies each of all regular passenger tariffs which affect state passenger traffic on their respective lines.

Passenger Rates:

LITTLE ROCK, ARK., June 14, 1905.

The following resolution was introduced by Commsisioner B. B. Hudgins, and adopted for consideration at the next meeting of the Commission, and the secretary was instructed to notify all persons, companies or corporations operating any railroad in this state that said resolution would be considered at the next meeting of the Commission, Wednesday, July 12, 1905:

Resolved, that the Commission make passenger rates on all railroads of the state in compliance with Section 6802 of Kirby's Digest of the statutes of Arkansas, and that the same be reduced on lines of railroad fifteen miles in length or less from eight to seven cents per mile; on lines over fifteen miles and less than seventy-five miles from five to four cents per mile; on lines seventy-five miles in length or over from three to two and one half cents per mile, and such other changes or modifications as the Commission may deem necessary.

Resolved, that action on this resolution be postponed until the next regular meeting of the Commission, July 12,

1905, and that the railroads be given due notice of the contemplated action of the Commission as above set forth.

In the Matter of Reducing Passenger Rates:

The resolution of Commissioner B. B. Hudgins in the matter of reduction of passenger rates in the State of Arkansas was on this day defeated, Commissioner Hudgins voting for the resolution, and Commissioners Hampton and Phillips against it.

Commissioner Hudgins then offered a resolution to fix the passenger rates as follows:

On railroads 15 miles or less in length 8 cents per mile.

On railroads over 15 miles in length and less than 75, 5 cents per mile.

On railroads over 75 miles in length 3 cents per mile. This resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote, and the following order made:

Effective August 9, 1905:

The maximum sum which any corporation, person or association of persons operating a line of railroad in this State, shall be authorized to charge and collect for carrying each passenger over such line within this State, in the manner known as first class passage, is fixed at the following rates: On line of railroad 15 miles or less in length. . . . . . 8c per mile On lines of railroad over 15 miles in length and

less than 75 miles in length..

On lines over 75 miles in length.

.....

.5c per mile .3c per mile

And for carrying children in charge of an adult there may be collected one-half the above named rates for such of said children as may be under the age of 12 years and over the age of 5 years; and for such of said children as may be under the ago of 5 years no charge whatever shall be made beyond what is collected from the adults who may have charge of them; provided, that all rates now in use on any railroad in this State which are lower than herein prescribed shall remain in effect as maximum rates until further order of the Commission.
