1 Subjection, and many other duties, we owe to the magistrates. 8 Love is the fulfilling of the law. 11 Gluttony and drunkenness, and the works of darkness, are out of season in the time of the gospel.

LET every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be, are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth e the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? ddo that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the

same.

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience' sake.

6 For, for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

9 For this, iThou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time mio awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: " let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 P Let us walk I honestly, as in the day: 9 not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

CHAP XIV.

3 Men may not contemn nor condemn one the other for things indifferent: 13 but take heed that they give no offence in them: 15 for that the apostle prov eth unlawful by many reasons. HIM that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

We must imitate Christ.

9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judg ment-seat of Christ.

11 For it is written, m As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shail how to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then "every one of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling-block, or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, Pthat there is nothing unclean of itself: but 7 to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

18 For he that in these things serveth Christ, " is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things where with one may edify another.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him 7 seven so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 a But he that is spiritual d Je. 9. 25, Job 15.8. judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

4 Aud my speech and my preach-+ ing f was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit, and of power:

5 That your faith should not t stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit, we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world unto our glory;

gn Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

speak unto you as aspiritual, but as unto bcarnal, even as unto c babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with 4 milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for f whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk tas men ?

4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal ?

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man ?

6 I have planted, Apollos watered: m but God gave the in

crease.

7 So then, neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth: but God that giveth the increase.

8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour.

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's Thusbandry, ye are 4 God's building.
