CHAPTER 76.

An Act to Authorize the Town of Glace Bay to Borrow Money for the Purpose of Relieving Distress in the Town Caused by Unenployment.

(Passed the 19th day of March, A. D. 1926.)

Be it enacted, by the Governor, Council and Assembly as follows:

1. The Town of Glace Bay is authorized to borrow Authority to or raise by way of loan on the credit of the Town a sum not exceeding Eight Thousand Dollars for the purpose of relieving distress in the Town caused by unemployment.

2. Where any money is borrowed or raised by the issue and sale of Debentures of the Town under this Act and The Municipal Debentures Act oneeighth of the amount so borrowed shall be repaid each year until the amount borrowed is paid, and the said Debentures shall be payable accordingly.

3. Every sum required for paying

(a) Interest on such Debentures;

(b) Principal of such Debentures;

shall be held to be sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Town, and shall be raised, levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Town are raised, levied and collected.

Montreal the Amount of an Overdraft.

(Passed the 19th day of March, A. D. 1926.)

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council and Assembly as follows:

1. The Town of Glace Bay is authorized to borrow or raise by way of loan on the credit of the Town, a sum not exceeding One Hundred Thousand Dollars for the purpose of paying the Bank of Montreal the amount due that Bank for an overdraft.

2.

Where any money is borrowed or raised by the issue and sale of debentures of the Town under this Act and The Municipal Debentures Act one-tenth of the amount so borrowed shall be repaid each year until the amount borrowed is paid, and the said Debentures shall be payable accordingly.

3. Every sum required for paying

CHAPTER 78.

An Act to Authorize the Town of Hantsport to
Exempt Certain Industries.

(Passed the 19th day of March, A. D. 1926.)

Whereas at a meeting of the ratepayers of the Town Preamble. of Hantsport duly called and held, and upon a ballot duly taken thereafter the Town Council of the said Town was authorized by the ratepayers to apply to the Legislature of Nova Scotia for leave to fix the assessed value of new industries, and also for leave to exempt new industries from taxation for the period of twenty years;

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council and Assembly as follows:

1. The Town Council of the Town of Hantsport May exempt is authorized to exempt from taxation for the term of plants. twenty years beginning June 1st, 1926, any manufacturing plant or plants, which may within the next two years be erected within the Town of Hantsport.

D. 1926, or any lesser period, the assessed value of any manufacturing plant or plants, which may within the next two years be erected within the Town of Hantsport, at such sum less than the value thereof as the said Town Council may think proper.

CHAPTER 79.

"An Act Authorizing the Town of Kentville to Help defray the expenses of a Victorian Order Nurse."

(Passed the 15th day of March, A. D. 1926.)

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council and Assembly, as follows:

I.

The Town Council of the Town of Kentville is hereby authorized from time to time and at all times hereafter to vote, rate, collect, receive and appropriate such sum or sums of money as the Council shall deem proper to help defray the expenses of a Victorian Order Nurse for the Town of Kentville, but in no case to exceed the sum Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars in any one year.

2. Every sum voted or appropriated under the authority of this Act shall be held to be sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the said Town, and shall be raised, levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other sums required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the said Town are raised, levied and collected.

CHAPTER 80.

An Act to Enable the Town of Liverpool to Exempt
from Taxation part of the Plant, Buildings,
Premises and Business of a Pro-
posed Paper Mill.

(Passed the 19th day of March, A. D. 1926.)

Whereas, pursuant to a resolution of the Town Council of the Town of Liverpool, N. S., passed on the twenty-fifth day of September, 1925, a public meeting of the ratepayers of the said Town was held on the fifteenth day of October, 1925, at which meeting a vote of the ratepayers then and there present having been duly taken, a resolution was

unanimously approved by the said ratepayers, legally voting at said meeting, and in manner provided by law, the said ratepayers so voting and approving representing and constituting a majority of the ratepayers of the said Town of Liverpool entitled to vote at a meeting of ratepayers held under the provisions of Sections 142 and 143 of "The Towns' Incorporation Act" the said resolution being as follows:

"Resolved that this Public Meeting of the Ratepayers of the Town of Liverpool, convened under the provisions of Sections 142 and 143 of The Towns' Incorporation Act, do hereby approve of exemption from taxation for a period of twenty years (over and above cost value of site) that part of the plant, buildings, premises, and business of the proposed Paper Mill, which does not include either residences or merchandising establishments, of the Macleod Pulp and Paper Company, Limited, and do hereby approve and favor the passing of a special Act of the Legislature authorizing such exemption;" Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council and Assembly as follows:

Notwithstanding anything in Chapter 96 of May exempt The Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1923, or in any other enactment contained, the Town of Liverpool is hereby authorized and empowered to exempt from taxation for a period of twenty years (over and above cost value of site) that part of the plant, buildings, premises and business of the proposed Paper Mill of the Macleod Pulp and Paper Company, Limited, which does not include either residences or merchandising establishments.

It shall not be necessary to convene any further Ratepayers' or other public meeting of the ratepayers of the Town, unnecessary. either under the provisions of this Act, or under The Towns' Incorporation Act, or any amendments of the same, or to have any proclamation made or published under the provisions of said Chapter 96 of The Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1923, or at all, as a condition precedent to the doing of anything by this Act authorized or provided for.
