[7.] Anno 1716. At a meeting of the Select men, May ye 22th. Liberty is granted to m' John Frizzet to digg open ye High way in Fleet Street for ye Laying a Cellar draine of his into ye common Shore there.

Provided he Lay the Same with brick or Stone as the Law directs. and also that he forthwith make good that part of the H. way where he Shall So digg.

At a meeting of the Sel. men, ye 5th of June.

Ordered. That ye T. Clerk Isue forth warts for a Town meeting at ye T. House on Tuesday ye 12th of June curt at two of ye clock after noon for ye Granting money, and ye other business continued, and to chuse One Constable in ye room of m' Tho' Jackson who refuseth to Serve, and to consider of any other proposal wch may be Offered for ye benefit of ye Town.

The question being asked of ye Sel. men whether they as of Opinion that Abigal Howlet Should be acknowledged as an Inhabit of Boston. Voted in the Affirmative.

[8.] Anno 1716. At a meeting of ye Sel. men, je 19th of June. Liberty is granted to Agnis Gwinop on ye behalfe of the Heires of Ezekiel Hamlin deceaced to digg open the High way in Prince Street for ye Repairing their Cellar draine Leading into ye Comor Shoar there.

Provided She Lay the Same wth brick or Stone as ye Law directs, and also forth with to make good Such part of ye Sa way where She Shall So digg.

At a meeting of the Sel. men, ye 3a of July.

Ordered. That Application be made to ye Court of Gen" Sessions of y Peace for ye County of Suffolke now Sitting. Signifieing that this Town is in ye Practice of Upholding a Select, watch as was agreed on by ye members of counceil, Justices and Sel. men of ye Sa Town the 29th of Appril, 1714.

And that ye Inhabits at their meeting ye 12th. of June Last, did grant the Sume of three hundred pounds for the Support therof for this present year.

Praying the S Court to order a Rule for Apportioning and Leveing the Same as ye Law directs.

Arthur Trist who came from Plymouth in G. Brittaine, was by order of ye Sel. men warned to depart.

Peter Bowen Cordwinder who came from Engd in yo Allen, Tim° Asten, to this Town in may Last was by order of ye Sel. men warned to depart.

Dorothy Wenton Widd° being present Sayes She came from Carolina to N. york, & from thence came by Land to Roxbury where She Tarryed a few dayes, & came from thence into this Town yo 15th of July curt.

She is now by ye Sel. men, warned to depart out of this Town.

Thoms. Jones coach man Petition to Sell Strong drink as a Retayler in Queen Street disallowed by ye Sel. men.

Voted. That Rich Pullen be Voted & Recommended to y court of Gen" Sessions as a Sutable person to keep a Publick House at y Exchang Tavern in Boston.

Eliza Hawksworth haveing Revived her Petition to Sell drink as a Retayler is disallowed by yeo Sel. men.

Samuel Bligh Petition to Sell drink as an Inhold' disallowed by ye Sel. men

Hannah, Wife of John Peirse of Swanzey who Sayes She had been in this Town ab' Seven weeks, was on ye 18th of July cur warned by order of ye Sel. men to depart out of this Town.

At a meeting of His Majties Justices being present thirteen in Number. And the Sel. men of Boston. being of them Six in Numb the 31th. of July.

Voted an Agreement that aWard on ye neck as agreed on yo 4th of Aug. 1712 be revived and continued for 8 Lords dayes ensuing, and that accordingly directions for ye Same be given to ye Sever" constables.

[13.] Voted an agreement yt the Justices & Select men &c. by turns do walk by night as formerly to Suppress disorders for the Space of Eight weeks following, & ye Assortmt be made agreeable to that made ye 8th of Feby Last for Vissiting of Familyes.

At a Meeting of ye Sel. m. the 14th of August.

Sarah Tomlins Petition to Sell drink as a Retayler or to keep a Comon Victualling House being againe Revived, the Sel. men do refuse to proceed to a vote in as much as ye time for granting Lycences is past.

Whereas Capt Joshua Lamb & his Predicessors have for many years past Practised the cutting & carrying a way of Turff from Off an Acre of ye Towns Marsh for Repaireing their Dam, and no Record appearing for his or their Liberty So to do

The Select men do now agree to Release unto him the Sa. Lamb all and every Such former Tresspas, On condition he do pay unto ye Town Treasu' the Sume of Ten Shillings for what is past.

Where as m' Sam" Millar of Milton is behind hand the Sum of Sixty pounds being his part of 200' by bond due the 10th of May Last past, and at his request, Signifying his Willingness to pay intrest for the Same untill the 10th of may next.

The Sel. men do there fore advise y° Treasu' to Suspend comenceing Sute for y° Same.

[14.] Pursuant to the directions in the Law Relating to Free Negro's

The Select men do now order the Free male Negro's, Mollato's &c. of this Town, hereafter named, & each of them diligently to attend and Labour, in cleaning or Repaireing the High wayes, or other Services for ye comon benefit of this Town, at Such time & place as the Sel. men, or Such person or persons whom they Shall thereto appoint. Shall order & direct, for the Space of So many dayes as is hereafter Sett down against each of their names. As an Equivalent to watchings Trainings &c. performed by others, vizt.

The Sel. men do desire & appoint Capt Hab. Savage to direct and Imploy ye above Sa negro's unto their Sa worke in y Servis of this Town.

[15.] The Price of Wheat now Stated by ye Select men for Regulating the Assize of Bread is Five Shilling p Bushel.

Nicholas Lewen Bread baker being a Stranger Sayes he hath for Some moneths past Exerciced his Trade in this Town the Select men do now warn him to depart out of this Town wth in yo Space of fourteen dayes next ensuing.

William Speakman Bread Baker Sayes he came from Engla into this town ab' five Moneth" Since and that his Lodging hath been at ye House of m' John Wass, The Sel. men do now warn him to depart out of this Town wth in ye Space of fourteen dayes next ensuing.

Voted. That ye Sel. men are of Opinion that it will be for the benefit of this Town to make Some Addition to ye Wharfes at yo North Side of y Town Dock. And That Capt Habijah Savage. Cap John Charnock & m' William Welsteed be desired as a comittee to Effect the Same.

Rob. Orange & Benja Brown their Severall Petitions to build wth Timb', disallowed by ye Sel. men.

Joseph Calefs Petition for a Slaught House disallowed.

John Reed a Smith who lately came from Engld. is warned to depart ye Town wth in 14 dayes.

Ordered that m'. Flagg do warn John Harwood to remove Earth wch he Layd in Back street.

At a meeting of ye Sel. men

Whereas there is a Publick Notification und' the hand of Edward Weavor Dept Register of ye Court of Admeralty, Signifying an Appointmt of a Sale of a Ship called the Province Galley wth her Appurtenances, at the place where the court is held at five of ye clock this after noon, And the S Select men upon Observeation thereof, haveing Signified to the Honble John Minzes Esq, Judg of the S Court That the management of a Publick Sale in ye TownHouse is Forrein from ye declared Intentions in Erecting thereof, and that Such a President may be of Ill Tendancy, Advised him not to mannage a Sale there, and that In discharge of the Trust Reposed in them, they hold themselves Obliged to disallow the Improveing any part of ye Sd House to any other use then what was proposed in Erecting the Same. And they do direct that the Sa Hond Judg have an Attested Copie hereof forth wth Sent him.

Whereas m' John Marion for two moneths Last past hath been Imployed in prosecuting the Penall orders or By-Laws of this Town.

Voted. that he be paid Six pounds for that service.
