Certain it is that the first coat marshalled with the Royal Arms is apparently identical with his, and unless it can be shown that some other person residing near Philadelphia in 1727 bore for his paternal coat, gules, the three chevronells argent of Iestyn ap Gwrgan, Prince of Glamorgan, or of the Earls of Clare (or three chevrons gules), it seems fairly certain that the seal was that of Bevan. No such person is known to our genealogists. Be this as it may, that the Royal Arms were used by a settler in Pennsylvania at that early day is the most interesting fact in the records of early American heraldry, and it is hoped that the above notes may lead to a further investigation of the subject.
