VZEKIEL ROGERS, the author of this book,

was born of poor parents in a village near

the city of Bath. The father was a miner; the mother an industrious, godly woman.

When Ezekiel was born, it was found that more than the ordinary helplessness of infancy had fallen to his lut; for it had pleased God to send him into the world without arms. When also Ezekiel was eleven years of age, his father died, leaving a widow with her seven children to face the battle of life. Many pages,' says her son, "might be filled with an account of her brave struggles to keep the wolf from the door, while she toiled hard, day after day and year after year, in unfailing love, and with unfaltering faith in God, to supply the wants of her children.'
