CHAPTER XLIV.

An ACT to raise by way of Lottery, a Sum not exceeding two thousand five hundred Dollars, for finishing a Church in the Town of Hanover, in the County of York.

Sum to be SECTION I. E it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is herebyenacted by the authority of the same, That Henry Slagle, Ludwig Overdur, Frederick Shultz, Jacob Eichelberger, junior, Jacob Metzger and Henry Marter be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to raise by way of lottery, a sum of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred dolprobation, lars, for completing a church in the town of Hanover, in the to bonds for county of York.

And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, discharge of That the commissioners before they proceed to sell any tickets in their duties the said lottery, shall lay such scheme thereof before the Governor, as shall meet his approbation, and enter into bonds to him for the due performance of their duty, in selling the tickets, drawing the lottery and paying the prizes, and each of them before entering on the duties of his appointment, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation, diligently and faithfully to perform the duties hereby intrusted to him, and three of the commissioners at least, shall attend each day's drawing of the aforesaid lottery, and when the whole is completed shall cause an accurate list of the fortunate numbers to be published in one newspaper at least printed in the following towns: viz. Hanover, York and Gettysburgh, and shall pay and discharge all prizes that may be demanded by persons legally entitled thereto within thirty days after the drawing of the lottery shall be completed,

CHAPTER XLVII.

An ACT for the Relief of Samuel Ashton.

HEREAS it appears that on the tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and our, Samuel Ashton, of the county of Philadelphia, purchased rom a certain William Playford, an alien, a plantation or piece of and, lying in the township of Ridley, and county of Delaware, ontaining two hundred and nineteen acres and one hundred and wenty-five perches, that at the time of the said purchase the said Jamuel Ashton was not informed the said William Playford was n alien, and therefore incapable of holding real estate within this Commonwealth; and that under these circumstances the title of he said Samuel Ashton, to the said tract of land is not free from loubt: And whereas it is just and reasonable that the alienism of he said William Playford, should not be taken advantage of by he State, as against a fair purchaser without notice: Therefore, SECTION I. CHAPTER XLVIII.

ACT to enable Commissioners to convey lots of ground in the town of Fanetsburg in the county of Franklin.

V HEREAS it has been represented to the Legislature, that William McEntire late of Metal township, in the county of ranklin, deceased, died, seized of a tract of land, situated in the id township and county, upon which he in his lifetime had laid

out the town of Fanetsburg, and had contracted for the sale of seve ral lots therein, for which he had not made deeds of conveyance and that several of the purchasers in pursuance of their contracts, have made valuable improvements on their respective lots, and it has been further represented that the sales of the said lots are not recognized in the last will and testament of the said MEntire and that one of his sons and devisees has long since left the country, and it is unknown where he is, and one other of his sons and devisees is in his minority, and also that there is not such written evidence of the sales of the said lots as will under the existing laws of this state, authorize the executors named in the last will and testament of him the said M'Entire, to make deeds of conveyance of the same, and vest legal titles in the respective purchasers thereof. And as these representations appear to be true, they consequently, present a just and proper case for the interposition of the legislature: Therefore,

SECTION 1.
