CHAPTER I.

An ACT to tax the office of the Prothonotary or
Clerk of the Supreme Court.

Section 1.

E it enacted by the Senate and

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, That the prothonotary or Prothonotary clerk of the fupreme court, fhall from and after the first day of April next ensuing the date of this act, keep, or caufe to be kept, a fair and accurate account of all the fees received in his office; and fhall once in each and every year thereafter, furnish a copy thereof upon oath or affirmation, to the register and comptroller-general.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That the regifter and comptroller-general, fhall proceed with the account fo furnished by the prothonotary or clerk of VOL. V. B

the fupreme court, in the following manner Yearly amount that is to say: Of the amount of fees receive dollars to be by the faid prothonotary or clerk during th taxed 75 per fpace of one year, two thousand dollars fhall b and remain clear of tax, and fhall be deducted from the amount of fees fo received during one year, and the remainder of the faid ac count fhall be taxed feventy-five per cent which faid taxes fhall be charged to the fai prothonotary or clerk, in the books of th comptroller and register-general; and and th faid prothonotary or clerk, fhall forthwith up on the fettlement of his account as aforefaid pay into the state-treasury the amount of th Provifo as to faid taxes: Provided always, That the arrear of fees which may be due to the faid prothono tary or clerk, on the thirty-firft day of Marc next enfuing the date hereof, and which ma be paid after that day, are not intended to b included within the provifions of this act.

GENTLEMEN,

THE bill, entitled "An Act to tax the office of prothonotary or clerk of the fupreme court;" which was prefented o me near the clofe of the last feffion, has not been fent back within three days after your prefent meeting, fo that it is now become a law. have directed it to be returned to the house reprefentatives in which it originated.

This is intended as an additional evidence of the deference I pay to the opinion of the legifature, by prefering it to my own.

CHAPTER II.

An ACT for the relief of Edmund Milne

W

HEREAS, Edmund Milne hath by his petition fet forth that he paid to John Nicholson, then comptroller-general, the balance of a judgment obtained against him, which ftill continues a lien on his property and from which it cannot be relieved, unless an act be paffed declaring the faid judgment satisfied; and as by the receipt of the faid comptroller, it appears that the money was paid by the faid Edmund Milne.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and Houfe of Reprefentatives of the Commonwealth of Pennfylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, That the attorney-general caufe fatisfaction to be entered on record, in the fuit inftituted in the name of John Hazlewood in behalf of the commonwealth, against Edmund Milne and John Vandeeren.
