Only about one-half of the appointments in the Indian Service since July 1, 1900, have been made from examinations for positions belonging exclusively to the Indian service, the remainder being made from examinations for positions in the Departmental Service generally. Percentages relating exclusively to the Indian service can not therefore be given.
