HEREAS the Ordinances and Statutes concerning Post Houses in this Pro. vince, are in many respects infufficient to furnish carriages and well regulat ed Pofts for the convenience of Travellers, and it being neceffary to provide more effectually for the fame, and it being alfo expedient to reduce into one act of the Provincial Parliament, the Ordinances and Statutes relating thereto: Be it therefore enacted by the King's most excellent Majefty by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of and under the authority of An Act paffed in the Parlia ment of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of An Act pafled "in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's reign, intituled' An An for making more "effectual provifion for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America ;" "and to make further provifion for the Government of the faid Province" and it is hereby enacted by the authority aforefaid, that an Ordinance paffed in the twentieth Ordinance 20Geo year of His Majefty's reign, intituled, "An Ordinance for regulating all fuch perfons as keep horfes and carriages to let and hire for the accommodation of Travellers, com "monly called and known by the name of Maitre de Pofte" and also another act paffed in the thirty-fifth year of His Majefty's reign, intituled" An Act to amend and make "perpetual, An Act paffed in the twentieth year of His Majefty's reign, intituled, At 35 Geo. III. An Ordinance for regulating all fuch perfons as keep horfes and carriages to let and "hire for the accommodation of Travellers commonly called and known by the name of "Maitres de Pofte" be and are hereby repealed. III. cap. 4. re. 66 pealed. cap. 7. repealed. Superintendantto have the direction of the Provincial Poft Houses. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that the Superintendant of Provincial Poft-Houfes fhall have the fuperintendance and direction of the PostHouses to be established, in conformity to this act, and it fhall be his duty to fee the fame carried duly into effect. III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that from and after the first day of June of the prefent year, the faid Superintendant of Provincial PoftHouses fhall establish Poft- Houses, for the convenience of Travellers, between the Cities of Quebec and Montreal, on the North fide of the river Saint Lawrence, and After ift of June the faid Superintendant shall also establish Post-Houses in all Places where he fhall be ordered fo to do, by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor or perfon administering the Government of this Province for the time being.
