6 Und da ihn Herodes wollte vorstel= len, in derselbigen Nacht schlief Petrus zwischen zween Kriegsknechten, gebunden mit zwo Ketten, und die Hüter vor der Thüre hüteten des Gefängnisses.

7 Und siehe, der Engel des Herrn kam daher, und ein Licht schien in dem Gemache; und er schlug Petrum an die Seite, und weckte ihn auf, und sprach: Stehe behende auf. Und die Ketten fielen ihm von seinen Händen.

8 Und der Engel sprach zu ihm: Gürte dich, und thue deine Schuhe an. Und er that also. Und er sprach zu ihm: Wirf deinen Mantel um dich, und folge mir nach.

9 Und er gieng hinaus, und folgte ihm, und wußte nicht, daß ihm wahrhaftig solches geschehe durch den Engel; sondern es däuchte ihn, er sähe ein Gesicht.

10 Sie giengen aber durch die erste und andere Hut, und kamen zu der eifernen Thüre, welche zur Stadt führet, die that sich ihnen von ihr selbst auf; und traten hinaus, und giengen hin eine Gasse lang; und alsobald schied der Engel von ihm.

11 Und da Petrus zu ihm selber kam, sprach er: Nun weiß ich wahrhaftig, daß der Herr seinen Engel gesandt hat, und mich errettet aus der Hand Hero dis, und von allem Warten des Jüdischen Volks.

12 Und als er sich besaun, kam er vor das Haus Mariä, der Mutter Johannis, de mit dem Zunamen Marcus hieß, da Viele beh einander waren, und beteten.

13 Als aber Petrus an die Thüre des Thors flopfte, trat hervor eine Magd zu horchen, mit Namen Rhode.

14 Und als sie Petri Stimme erkannte, that sie das Thor nicht auf vor Freude, lief aber hinein, und verkündigte es ihnen: Petrus stünde vor dem Thore.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains; and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison; and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals: and so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him, and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together, praying.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 Sie aber sprachen zu ihr: Du bist unsinnig. Sie aber bestand da rauf, es wäre also. Sie sprachen: Es ist sein Engel. 16 Petrus aber klopfte weiter an. Da sie aber aufthaten, fahen sie ihn, und entsetzten sich.

17 Er aber winkte ihnen mit der Hand, zu schweigen, und erzählte ihnen, wie ihn der Herr hätte aus dem Gefängniß geführet, und sprach: Verkündiget dies Jakobo und den Brüdern. Und ging hinaus, und 30g an einen andern Ort.

18 Da es aber Tag ward, ward nicht eine kleine Bekümmerniß unter den Kriegsknechten, wie es doch mit Petro gegangen wäre.

19 Herodes aber, da er ihn forderte und nicht fand, ließ er die Hüter rechtfertigen, (verhören) und hieß sie wegführen; und zog von Judäa hinab gen_Täfarien, und hielt allda' sein Wesen.

20 Denn er gedachte, wider die von Thro und Sidon zu kriegen. Sie aber kamen einmüthiglich zu ihm, und überredeten des Königs Kämmerer, Blastum, und baten um Frieden; darum, daß ihre Länder sich nähren mußten von des Königs Lande.

21 Aber auf einen bestimmten Tag that Herodes das königliche Kleid an, setzte sich auf den Nichtstuhl, und that eine Rede zu ihnen.

22 Das Volk aber rief zu: Das ist Gottes Stimme, und nicht eines Men schen.

23 Alsobald schlug ihn der Engel des Herrn, darum, daß er die Ehre nicht Gott gab; und ward gefressen von den Würmern, und gab den Geist auf.

24 Das Wort Gottes aber wuchs und mehrete sich.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 But Peter continued knocking. And when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 But he beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Pe

ter.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Cesarea, and there abode.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon. But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace, because their country was nourished by the king's country.

21 And upon a set day, Herod arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

CHAPTER XIII.

2 Da sie aber dem Herrn dieneten und fasteten, sprach der heilige Geist Sondert mir aus Barnabam und Saulum zu dem Werke, dazu ich sie berufen habe.

3 Da fasteten sie, und beteten, und legten die Hände auf ste, und ließen sie gehen.

4 Und wie sie ausgefandt waren vom heiligen Geiste, kamen sie gen Seleuciam, und von dannen schifften sie gen Chperu.

5 Und da sie in die Stadt Salamin kamen, verkündigten sie das Wort Gottes in der Juden Schulen. Sie hatten aber auch Johannem zum Diener.

6 Und da ste die Insel durchzogen bis zu der Stadt Paphos, fanden sie einen Zauberer und falschen Propheten, einen Juden, der hieß Bar-Jehu.

7 Der war beh Sergio Paulo, dem Landvogte, einem verständigen Manne. Derselbige rief zu sich Barnabam und Saulum, und begehrete, das Wort Gottes zu hören.

8 Da stand ihnen wider der Zauberer Eihmas (denn also wird fein Name gedeutet, und trachtete, daß er den Landvogt vom Glauben wendete. 9 Saulus aber, der auch Paulus heißt, voll heiligen Geistes, fah ihn an,

10 Und sprach: O du Kind des Teufels, voll aller List und aller Schaltheit, und Feind aller Gerechtigkeit, du hörest nicht auf, abzuwenden die rechten Wege des Herrn.

11 Und nun stehe, die Hand des Herrn fommt über dich, und sollst blind seyn, und die Sonne eine Zeitlang nicht sehen. Und von Stund an

prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul, for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

4 T So they being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had also John to their minis

ter.

6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:

7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,

10 And said, O full of all subtilty, and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord ?

11 And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately

13 Da aber Paulus, und die um ihn waren, von Paphos schifften, kamen sie gen Bergen im Lande Pamphylia. Johannes aber wich von ihnen, und zog wieder gen Jerusalem.

14 Sie aber zogen durch von Pergen, und kamen gen Antiochiam im Lande Pisidia, und gingen in die Schule am Sabbathtage, und setzten sich.

15 Nach der Lection aber des Gefetzes und der Propheten, sandten die Obersten der Schule zu ihnen und lie ßen ihnen sagen: Lieben Brüder, wollt ihr etwas reden, und das Volk ermahnen, so saget an.

16 Da stand Paulus auf, und winkte mit der Hand, und sprach: Ihr Männer von Israel, und die ihr Gott fürchtet, höret zu.

17 Der Gott dieses Volks hat erwäh= let unsere Väter, und erhöhet das Volf, da sie Fremdlinge waren im Laude Egypten, und mit einem hohen Arme führete er sie aus demselbigen.

18 Und beh vierzig Jahre lang duldete er ihre Weise in der Wüste.

19 Und vertilgte sieben Völker in dem Lande Canaan, und theilte unter fie, nach dem Loose, jener Länder.

20 Darnach gab er ihnen Nichter, beh vier hundert und fünfzig Jahre lang, bis auf den Propheten Samuel.

21. Und von da an baten sie um einen König; und Gott gab ihnen Saul, den Sohn Kis, einen Mann aus dem Geschlechte Benjamin, vierzig Jahre lang.

22 Und da er denselbigen wegthat, richtete er auf über sie David zum Könige, von welchem er zeugete: Ich habe gefunden David, den Sohn Jeffe, einen

12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: And John departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, and sat

down.

15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand, said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.

18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.

19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

20 And after that, he gave unto them judges, about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have

23 Ans dieses Samen hat Gott, wie er verheißen hat, gezeuget Jesum, dem Volfe Israel zum Heilande;

24 Als denn Johannes zuvor dem Volke Ifrael predigte die Taufe der Bußze, ehe denn Er aufing.

25 Als aber Johannes seinen Lauf erfüllete, sprach er: Ich bin nicht der, dafür ihr mich haltet. Aber stehe, er fommt nach mir, deß ich nicht werth bin, daß ich ihm die Schuhe seiner Füße auflöse.

26 Ihr Männer, lieben Brüder, ihr Kinder des Geschlechts Abrahams, und die unter euch Gott fürchten, euch ist das Wort dieses Heils gefandt.

27 Denn die zu Jerusalem wohnen, und ihre Obersten, dieweil sie diesen nicht kannten, noch die Stimme der Propheten, (welche auf alle Sabbathe gelesen werden) haben sie dieselben mit ihren Urtheilen erfüllet.

28 Und wiewohl sie keine Ursach des Todes an ihm fanden, baten sie doch Pilatum, ihn zu tödten.

29 Und als sie alles vollendet hatten, was von ihm geschrieben ist, nahmen sie ihn von dem Holze, und legten ihn in ein Grab.

30 Aber Gott hat ihn auferwecket von den Todten.

31 Und er ist erschienen viele Tage denen, die mit ihm hinauf von Galiläa gen Jerusalem gegangen waren; welche sind seine Zeugen an das Volt. 32 Und wir auch verkündigen euch die Verheißung, die zu unsern Vätern geschehen ist,

33 Daß dieselbige Gott uns, ihren Kindern, erfüllet hat, in dem, daß er Jesum auferwecket hat; wie denn im andern Psalm geschrieben stehet: Du bist mein Sohn, heute habe ich dich gezeuget.

34 Daß er ihn aber hat von den Todten auferwecket, daß er hinfort nicht mehr soll verwesen, spricht er al fo: Ich will euch die Gnade, David verheißen, treulich halten..

man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

23 Of this man's seed hath God, according to his promise, raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

24 When John had first preached, before his coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath-day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.

29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

30 But God raised him from the dead:

31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,

33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have Í begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
