3 und ließ ihm sagen: Bist du, der da kommen soll, oder sollen wir eines andern warten?

4 Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin, und faget Johanni wieder, was ihr sehet und höret :

5 Die Blinden sehen, und die Lahmén gehen, die Aussätzigen werden rein, und die Tauben hören, die Todten stehèn auf, und den Armen wird das Evangelium geprediget.

6. Und selig ist, der sich nicht an mir ärgert.

7 Da die hingiengen, fleng Jesus an zu reden zu dem Volfe von Johanne: Was send ihr hinaus gegangen in die Wüste zu sehen? Wolltet ihr ein Rohr sehen, das der Wind hin und her we het?

8 Oder was send ihr hinaus gegangen zu sehen? Wolltet ihr einen Menschen in weichen Kleidern sehen? Siehe, die da weiche Kleider tragen, sind in der Könige Häuser.

9 Oder was seyd ihr hinaus gegan= gen zu sehen? Wolltet ihr einen Propheten sehen? Ja, ich sage euch, der auch mehr ist, denn ein Prophet.

10 Denn dieser ists, von dem geschrieben stehet: Siehe, ich fende meinen Engel vor dir her, der deinen Weg vor dir bereiten soll.

11 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Unter allen, die von Weibern geboren sind, ist nicht aufgekommen, der grösser sey, denn Johannes, der Täufer; der aber der Kleinste ist im Himmelreiche, ist grösser,

Denn er.

12 Aber von den Tagen Johannis, des Täufers, bis hieher, leidet das Himmelreich Gewalt ; und die Gewalt thun, die reissen es zu sich.

13 Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz haben geweisfaget bis auf Johannem.

14 Und (so ihr es wollt annehmen)

4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and

see:

5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me.

7 T And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he.

12 And from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14 And if ye will receive it, this

32 Darum, wer mich bekennet vor den Menschen, den will Ich bekennen vor meinem himmlischen Vater.

33 Wer mich aber verleugnet vor den Menschen, den will Ich auch verleugnen vor meinem himmlischen Vater.

34 Ihr sollt nicht wähnen, daß ich gekommen sey, Frieden zu senden auf Erden. Ich bin nicht gekommen Frieden zu senden, sondern das Schwert. 35 Denn ich bin gekommen den Menschen zu erregen wider seinen Vater, und die Tochter wider ihre Mutter, und die Schnur wider ihre Schwieger.

36 Und des Menschen Feinde werden feine eigene Hausgenossen seyn.

37 Wer Vater oder Mutter mehr liebt, denn mich, der ist meiner nicht werth. Und wer Sohn oder Tochter mehr liebt, denn mich, der ist meiner nicht werth.

38 Und wer nicht sein Kreuz auf sich nimmt, und folget mir nach, der ist meiner nicht werth.

39 Wer sein Leben findet, der wird es verlieren; und wer sein Leben verliert um meinet willen, der wird es finden. 40 Wer euch aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat. 41 Wer einen Propheten aufnimmt in eines Propheten Namen, der wird eines Propheten Lohn empfangen. Wer einen Gerechten aufnimmt in eines Gerechten Nahmen, der wird eines Gerechten Lohn empfangen.

42 Und wer dieser Geringsten einen nur mit einem Becher kalten Waffers tränket, in eines Jüngers Nahmen; wahrlich, ich sage euch, c8 wird ihm nicht unbelohnt bleiben.

Das 11 Capitel.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

15 Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre.

16 Wem soll ich aber dies Geschlecht vergleichen? Es ist den Kindlein gleid), die an dem Markte sitzen, und rufen gegen ihre Gesellen,

17 und sprechen: wir haben cuch gepfiffen, und ihr wolltet nicht tanzen; wir haben euch geklaget, und ihr wolltet nicht weinen.

18 Johannes ist gekommen, aß nicht, und tranf nicht; so sagen sie: Er hat den Teufel.

19 Des Menschen Sohn ist gekommen, iffet und trinket; so fagen sie: Siehe, wie ist der Mensch ein Fresser, und ́ein Weinsäufer, der Zöllner und der Sünder Gesell. Und die Weisheit muß sich rechtfertigen lassen von ihren Kindern.

20 Da fieng er an die Städte zu schelten, in welchen am meisten seiner Thaten geschehen waren, und hatten sich doch nicht gebessert :

21 Wehe dir, Chorazin, wehe dir, Bethsaida! wären solche Thaten zu Thro und Sidon geschehen, als bey euch geschehen sind; sie hätten vor Zeiten im Sack und in der Asche Busse gethan.

22 Doch ich sage euch: Es wird Thro und Sidon erträglicher ergchen am jüngsten Gerichte, denn euch.

23 Und du Capernaum, die du bist crhoben bis an den Himmel, du wirst bis in die Hölle hinunter gestossen werden. Denn so zu Sodoma die Thaten geschehen wären, die beh dir geschehen sind; sie stünde noch heutiges Tages.

24 Doch ich sage euch: Es wird der Sodomer Lande_erträglicher ergehen am jüngsten Gerichte, denn dir.

15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

21 Wo unto thee, Chorazin! wo unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment than for thee.

26 Ja Vater, denn es ist also wohlgefällig gewesen vor dir.

26 Even so, Father, for so it seem. ed good in thy sight,

27 Alle Dinge sind mir übergeben von meinem Vater. Und Niemand kennet den Sohn, denn nur der Vater; und Niemand kennet den Vater, denn nur der Sohn, und wem es der Sohn will offenbaren.

28 Kommet her zu mir Alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen fehd, Ich will euch erquicken.

29 Nehmet auf euch mein Joch, und lernet von mir; denn ich bin sanftmüthig und von Her zen demüthig: so werdet ihr Nuhe finden für eure Seelen. 30 Denn mein Joch ist sanft, und meine Last ist leicht.]

Das 12 Capitel.

u der Zeit gieng Jefus durch die Saat am Sabbath; und seine Jünger waren hungrig, fiengen an Aehren auszuräufen, und assen.

2 Da das die Pharifäer fahen, sprachen sie zu ihm: Siehe, deine Jünger thun, das sich nicht ziemet am Sabbath zu thun.

3 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Habt ihr nicht gelesen, was David that, da ihn, und die mit ihm waren, hungerte ?

4 Wie er in das Gotteshaus gieng, und aß die Schaubrode, die ihm doch nicht ziemeten zu essen, noch denen, die mit ihm waren, sondern allein den Priestern?

5 Oder habt ihr nicht gelesen im Gesetze, wie die Priester am Sabbath im Tempel den Sabbath brechen, und sind doch ohne Schuld?

6 Ich sage aber euch, daß hier der ist, der auch grösser ist, denn der Tempel.

7 Wenn ihr aber wüßtet, was das Leh: Ich habe Wohlgefallen an der Barmherzigkeit, und nicht am Opfer; hättet ihr die Unschuldigen nicht verdammet.

8 Des Menschen Sohn ist ein Herr, auch über den Sabbath.

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

CHAPTER XII.

that time Jesus went on the sabbath-day through the corn, and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbathday.

3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;

4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5 Or have ye not read in the law how that on the sabbath-days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

6 But I say unto you, that in this place is one greater than the temple.

7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath-day.
