The House then resumed the consideration of the said resolution.

The question pending at the time of adjournment, on the amendment proposed by Mr. Montgomery to the said resolution, was stated: When,

Mr. Randolph accepted the amendment of Mr. Montgomery as a part of his resolution, and called for a division of the question thereon.

A motion was then made by Mr. M'Kim, and seconded, farther to amend the said resolution by inserting, after the word "repealed," the words "and that provision be made by law to prohibit all impor. tations from Great Britain and France, and their de pendencies:" When,

Mr. Randolph modified his motion so as to embrace the said amendment of Mr. M'Kim.

A motion was made by Mr. Root, and seconded, to amend the said resolution by striking out that part thereof which was proposed by Mr. M'Kim, and accepted by Mr. Rindolph, and also to strike out the word "immediately," and the words "and that," after the word "repealed," for the purpose of inserting the word "when."

And debate arising thereon,

An adjournment was called for: On which,

The several orders of the day were farther postponed until to-morrow.

And the House adjourned until to-morrow morning, eleven o'clock.

TUESDAY, April 3, 1810.

Mr. Newton, from the Committee of Commerce and Manufactures, presented a bill for the relief of Anthony Buck, which was received, and read the first time.

On motion,

The said bill was read the second time, and committed to a committee of the whole House on Friday

next.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Otis, their Secretary.

Mr. Speaker: The Senate have passed a bill, entitled "An act to amend the laws within the district of Columbia," to which they desire the concurrence of this House: And then he withdrew.

A motion was made by Mr. Pearson, and seconded, that the House resume the consideration of a resolu tion proposed by him on the twenty-first ultimo, for an inquiry into the conduct of brigadier general James Wilkinson.

And the question being taken thereon,
