Mr. Lewis presented a petition of Thomas Rowse, praying to be allowed and paid the arrearges of pay and rations, due for his services as a lieutenant in the Maryland line of the revolutionary army. Mr. Findley presented a petition of sundry inhabitants of the town and county of Indiana, state of Pennsylvania, praying for the establishment of a post route through the said town. Mr. Findley also presented a petition of sundry inhabitants of the counties of Cambria and Somerset, in the state of Pennsylvania, praying for the establish ment of a post route from Somerset town to Ebensburg. On a motion made and leave given by the House, Mr. Johnson, from the Committee of Claims, presented a bill for the benefit of the estate of Samuel G. East, which was received and read the first time. On motion of Mr. Morrow, and seconded, Resolved, That it is expedient to authorize the President of the United States, to employ a person to compile a digest of such laws of the United States, resolutions of the Congress under the confederation, and proclamations, as have relation to the public lands, and to provide for the printing of copies.
