CHAPTER 177.

An Act to Establish the Standard Drain Pipe Company,
Limited, to Construct an Erial Tramway
over East River Road, Pictou County.

(Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D. 1909.)

Preamble. SECTION. Empowered to construct an ærial tramway.

WHEREAS, The Standard Drain Pipe Company, of St. John's, P. Q., Limited, a body corporate, own and operate a clay working manufactory and plant, near New Glasgow, in Section No. 13, Pictou County, and own clay deposits upon both sides of the East River Road, so called, in said Section No. 13, and for convenience in handling such clay, desire to operate an ærial tramway across said road;

And whereas, the Municipal Council of the County of Pictou have declared themselves in favour of granting said company the privilege of constructing such tramway;

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

1. The Standard Drain Pipe Company, of St. John's, P. Q., Limited, and their assigns are hereby empowered to construct, maintain and operate an ærial tramway or haulage way over and across the East River Road, in Section No. 13, Pictou County, not less than thirty feet above the present roadway, and without placing any erection or obstruction upon the surface of the road limits.

CHAPTER 178.

An Act to Authorize the Standard Printing Company,
Limited, to Sell Property.

WHEREAS, the Standard Printing Company, Limited Preamble. hereinafter called the "company,

was incorporated

under the "Nova Scotia Companies' Act";

And whereas, the company is carrying on a printing and publishing business at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia;

And whereas, the company is desirous to have the right and power, should an opportunity offer, to sell and dispose of any property that it may own, or have any interest in, and in case of a sale, to be enabled to give a good and sufficient title to any property sold;

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

3. Due notice shall be given of the annual or any special meeting called for the purpose of considering the vote under the first section of this act by mailing a written notice setting forth the time, place and purposes of such meeting, with postage prepaid, to each of the registered shareholders of the company.

CHAPTER 179.

An Act to Incorporate the Sydney and East Bay
Railway Company, Limited.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

Incorporation. 1. Thomas Cozzolino, J. C. Larder and J. B. McCormack, all of the City of Sydney, in the County of Cape Breton, their associate successors and assigns, are hereby constituted a body corporate under the name of "The Sydney and East Bay Railway Company,

Limited," which is hereafter referred to as "the company.

2. The objects of the company shall be and include:- objects

(a) The construction, acquiring, owning, main-
taining and operating an electric tramway
or railway, or a tramway or railway operated
by any other motive power, from the limits
of the City of Sydney to the headwaters of
East Bay, in the County of Cape Breton, with
power to extend the said railway through
Districts Nos. 8 and 13, in the County of Cape
Breton, with power also to build any branches
or spur lines, and the purchase, sale, lease,
hiring or letting of any real estate necessary
for the carrying out of the objects of the com-
pany, including factories, stations, laboratories,
houses, wharves or tenements;

(b) The purchase, lease, exercising, letting or
reselling of any patent or other right;

(c) The purchase, manufacture, hire, working,
letting out or selling any engines, machinery,
lamps, pipes, wires, insulators, carbons or other
apparatus, materials or chemicals, employed
in or in any way connected with or conducive
to the manufacture, generation, distribution
or employment of electric energy as a motive
power, or for any other useful purpose;

(d) The purchase of the interest of or the con-
tracts of any other company or persons in any
other business similar in part or in whole to
that authorized for this company, provided
such transfer shall not confer any greater
rights than theretofore enjoyed by said other
company with respect to said interests or
contract so purchased;

(e) The carrying on of the business of manu-
facturing, distributing or supplying of elec-
tricity for lighting, power and other purposes,
and of all other materials and other apparatus

for the application of the same for any useful purpose in and within the territory before mentioned, excepting District 18 in said municipality;

(f) To purchase, hire, construct, or manufacture for use in connection with any business of the company, any ships, barges, rolling stock, machinery or plant, and to transport and convey on land and water freight and passengers;

(g) To construct and maintain telegraph and telephones, and to carry on the business of a telegraph and telephone company in connection with the business of the company along the line of their works and railways in the Provinec of Nova Scotia;

(h) To enter into any agreement or contract with any company having the same or similar objects;

(i) The development of hydraulic power, its transformation into electric energy, and transmission for use in public and private lighting and power purposes, for manufacturing, industrial, heating, domestic and other purposes;

(j) To purchase, own, hold, lease, acquire, mortgage, sell or otherwise dispose of timber and other lands, real estate, and lands covered with water;

(k) The acquirement by purchase, lease or otherwise, of the franchises, interests or property, in whole or in part, of any other company incorporated with objects similar in whole or in part to those of the company hereby incorporated;

(1) To enter into, and execute all necessary contracts with other companies for the exchange of freight and passengers, and to make and execute contracts for running rights over the tracks of other companies;
