All jury panels and jury lists now made, or to be made, for use in 1909, whether grand or petit, drawn from jury lists at the terms of the Supreme Court at which the same are usually drawn, shall be, and the same are hereby declared to be, legal and valid. 2. An Act to provide for Defraying Certain Expenses of the Civil Government of the Province. (Passed the 23rd day of April, A. D. 1909.) SECTION 1. Sums granted for the current year. Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows: Sums granted 1. There shall be granted to His Honor the Lieutenant-Governor the several sums of money hereinafter mentioned to provide for defraying expenses of the civil government of the Province for the fiscal year ending thirtieth September, 1909: A sum not exceeding $65,000 for the encouragement of agriculture; A sum not exceeding $8,000 to defray the expenses of criminal prosecutions; A sum not exceeding $316,000 for educational purposes; A sum not exceeding $11,000 to defray the current expenses of the crown land department; A sum not exceeding $69,000 to provide for the pay of members and officers and the contingent expenses of the legislature; A sum not exceeding $24,100 to defray the expenses of the department of public works; A sum not exceeding $46,000 to defray the expenses of the mines department; A sum not exceeding $212,250 for certain public charities; A sum not exceeding $21,000 towards defraying the expenses of public printing; A sum not exceeding $45,000 to provide for certain miscellaneous expenses; A sum not exceeding $71,099 in aid of steamboats, packets and ferries; A sum not exceeding $34,812.50 for the payment of salaries; A sum not exceeding $10,000 to defray the expenses of the provincial engineer's office; A sun not exceeding $1,250 towards defraying the expenses of the legislative library; A sum not exceeding $306,476.82 to provide for the payment of interest on Nova Scotia debentures; A sum not exceeding $58,416.66 to provide for a sinking fund in connection with Nova Scotia debentures; A sum not exceeding $1,200 in aid of Halifax medical college; A sum not exceeding $20,000 in aid of miners' relief funds; A sum not exceeding $400 to provide for the expenses of sheriffs' courts in connection with the electorial lists; A sum not exceeding $30,000 to provide for interest on current bank accounts in Nova Scotia; A sum not exceeding $41,000 in connection with royalty refund; A sum not exceeding $5,000 to provide for certain expenses in connection with succession duties; A sum not exceeding $175,000 to provide for roads; A sum not exceeding $10,000 to provide for road commissioner's office; A sum not exceeding $15,000 in connection with the department of industries and immigration; A sum not exceeding $35,000 in connection with Nova Scotia Technical College; A sum not exceeding $2,000 in connection with vital statistics; A sum not exceeding $72,117.66 to provide for road expenditure; A sum not exceeding $248,364.40 chargeable to capital for certain public works. 2. The several sums of money above mentioned shall be paid by the Provincial Treasurer, by warrant of the Provincial Secretary, out of the moneys now in the treasury, or as payment may be made at the same. |
