A message was received from the House, by the Clerk, who presented the following vote, to wit:

Voted, that Messrs. Haven, Mack, Fellows, Toppan, Tucker, Abbot of Conway, Perkins of NewHampton, Wilson of Gilmanton, Bartlett of Dover, Jones of Milton, Stevens of Pembroke, Wallace of Henniker, Bradley of Concord, French of Loudon, Kelly of Warner, Parker of Amherst, Brown of Francestown, M'Keen, Wheeler of New-Ipswich, Farley of Hollis, Belding, Bellows, Cheney, Griffin, Bingham, Baker of Campton, Rogers of Orford, Blaisdell of Canaan, Rix of Littleton, Olcott of Hanover, Meserve of Bartlett, Mahurin of CoJumbia, Willson of Lancaster, with such as the Senate may join, be a committee for the purpose of receiving and examining the Inventories of the several towns in this State, and to report a new proportion of public taxes.

Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Healy,

Concurred-And Messrs. Kimball and Gilmore'

joined.

Mr. Pattee asked leave to present the following resolve, to wit:

Resolved, that the committee on the judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of altering and amending the law of this State, relative to the manner of gaining a settlement and supporting paupers out of the town in which they may have a legal settlement, and that they report by bill or otherwise.

Which was read, and on motion of Mr. Healy, adopted.

On motion of Mr. Eastman,

Voted, that the subject embraced in the resolve passed in the House the last session, authorizing the treasurer of this state to cancel a bond for four thousand dollars, given by the treasurer of Dartmouth University, for the repayment of the loan made by said state to said corporation, and postponed to this session, be referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Gilmore, for the committee on unfinished business, reported, a report of the last session of the committee on banks, &c.,

Which was read, and ordered to lie on the table. Adjourned to 9 o'clock to-morrow morning.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1824.

Met according to adjournment.

Present as yesterday.

Mr. Eastman asked leave, and presented the petition of Edward Clark of Philadelphia, praying for the enactment of a law, granting him certain protection and privilege to use his invention for towing boats on certain navigable rivers in this state;

Which was read, and on-motion of the same gentleman, referred to the standing committee on the judiciary.

On motion of Mr. Healy,

Voted, that when the Senate adjourn, they adjourn to nine o'clock to-morrow morning.

A message was received from the House by Mr. Chamberlain, who informed the Senate, that the House are now ready to meet the Senate in convention, for the purpose of receiving the report of the joint committee, to whom was referred the returns of the votes from the several towns and places in this state, for Electors of President and Vice President.

On motion of Mr. Eastman,

Voted, to meet the House in Convention.

In Convention.

The honorable Senate and House being met in convention, in the Representatives' chamber, for the purpose of receiving the report of the committee appointed to examine, compare and cast the votes returned for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States,

Mr. Hale, of the Senate, from said committee, made the following report:

That they have attended to the duty assigned them, and find that the whole number of votes legally given, and duly returned, is

-and are chosen.

In the above account are not included the votes of the towns of Rye, Newington, Plaistow, Moultonborough, Durham, Sutton, Amherst, Frances

town, Winchester, Claremont and Alexandria, the returns not being received until the 18th instant; nor those of the towns of Kingston and Randolph, the returns not mentioning the towns in which the meetings were held; nor those of the town of Fishersfield, the return from which contains these words:

"We must state that we were under the necessity to form a check list, as the voters offered their votes at the meeting."

Which report was accepted.

On motion,

The Convention then rose, and the Senate returned to their Chamber.

A message was received from the House by the Clerk, who presented the following vote, to wit.

Voted, that Messrs. Knowlton, Shaw, Hall, Vincent and Bowman, with such as the Senate may join, be a committee to wait on his Excellency the Governor, and inform him that the following gentlemen are chosen Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, viz.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1824.

Present as yesterday.

Mr. Hale, for the joint committee appointed to wait on his Excellency the Governor, and inform him of the choice of Electors, &c. reported,

That the committee had attended to that duty. A message was received from the House by the Clerk, who presented the following resolution, to wit:

"Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives, in General Court convened, That his Excellency the Governor be, and he is hereby, authorized to appoint two commissioners to meet and confer with the directors of the American Asylum, and commissioners from the States of Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and Rhode-Island, or of such States as may appoint commissioners, on the subject of making provision for the education of the deaf and dumb of this State, at the Asylum, and to make a report of their doings at the next session of the Legislature.

"Sent up for concurrence."

Which resolution was read, and on motion of Mr. Kimball, was then read a second time,

And on motion of Mr. Hale,

The rule of the Senate, so far suspended, that it was assigned for a third reading at eleven o'clock this forenoon.

On motion of Mr. Eastman,

Voted, that the report of the committee on banks, &c., which was ordered to lie on the table, be now taken into consideration; which was read the second time,
