Fluids as well as solids are prescribed by weight. The decimal line is recommended instead of points to avoid error.

A teaspoonful is five grammes, a tablespoonful twenty grammes.

As the approximations for the ounce and drachm are more while the grain is less than the exact equivalent, there is no danger of giving too large doses of powerful drugs.

As the metric system is used in many books the above table may be convenient for reference.

The duration of human pregnancy is about 275 days. This is subject to some variation, and the longest period is still undetermined. As labor occurs
in the larger proportion of cases between 270 and 290 days from the last menstruation, it is usual to reckon either from the first or last day of this period,
taking as the mean 280 days, or a little over nine calendar months. For this approximate calculation the first day of the menstrual period may be used, as
being more readily ascertained. The table presents at a glance the beginning and end of 280 days for every day of the year. Find the date of menstruation
in the upper line of the horizontal row and the figure below, with the corresponding month, will indicate 280 days. In leap year, if the period of pregnancy
includes February, the time for labor will be one day earlier than that given in the table.

Reliable Animal Vaccine,

FROM

DR. FRANK P. FOSTER, NEW YORK.

The undersigned receives from Dr. FOSTER a supply of fresh Vaccine every week. It will be furnished in any quantity desired, by express or mail.

Dr. FOSTER'S Animal Vaccine is the only kind that may be said to have the unqualified indorsement of the medical profession of New York. It has been supplied to the profession throughout the State by the undersigned for the past eight years.

QUILL SLIPS (half Quill, charged on convex surface, at square cut end),
CAPILLARY TUBES,

$0.25 2.00

For ordinary use, QUILL SLIPS are the most reliable of all forms of stored Vaccine, and in cases of failure with them in primary vaccination, if used within one week of their issue, and strictly in accordance with the printed directions, being in the meantime kept cool and dry, a second supply will be furnished gratis.

TUBES are intended chiefly for transportation to long distances, as the virus is preserved for a considerable length of time. They are superior to Crusts, but inferior to Quill Slips.

CRUSTS are not recommended, and are not sold, for the reason that, however well formed they may be, they are apt to prove inefficient.
