This is a book for people who like argument. Witty, contentious and passionate, it exposes the methods with which we avoid reasoned debate.

---------------

An intellectually stimulating book which illuminates the labyrinth of rationalism indicating correct ways in which to reason and some of the persuasive wrong turns.

This book is pithy and very well written; each point is made in a concise way with absolutely no filler or waffle. This makes for a very manageable read but one that must be ruminated on.

The author’s voice is very marked- he comes across as rather intimidating and forceful though this tone is annealed by the humour which is manifest throughout which often had me laughing out loud.

He seemed to draw his examples from rather a small pool: religion, New Labour, New Zealand political debate circa 1985- but each was apposite and the explanation of the blunders they illustrated clear.

I enjoyed this book and will look out for anything else Jamie Whyte has written.
